Welcome to Bide-A-Wee -- the companion animal welfare society whose no-kill adoption centers have found loving homes for more than one million dogs, cats, puppies and kittens in the century since we were founded. Every year, thousands of helpless, unwanted pets find their way to Bide-A-Wee's doors to receive shelter, food, medical care, companionship and love. Within a few months, nearly all are successfully placed with carefully screened adopters.Were it not for Bide-A-Wee, many of these pets would end up abandoned or destroyed. Unfortunately, many public and privately operated shelters still routinely destroy animals that are not adopted within a specified timeframe or are deemed "hard to place." In New York City alone, more than 40,000 dogs and cats are destroyed each year. At Bide-A-Wee, an animal is never euthanized unless it is incurably ill.
